Visual Identity project for the Museum of the History of Medicine, located in Rome, Italy. As part of a large group of museums in Sapienza University, its collection spans from ancient times (Egyptian, Greek and Roman medicine) to the 21st century, including anatomy, psychology and surgery instruments, displaced on four floors.
The project was inspired by connectomes, comprehensive maps
of neural connection in the human brain, created by tracing neurons and their connections, called synapses. Connectome studies were supported by many projects and organizations since 2005, in order to understand brain’s function and behaviour related to mental disorders, such as schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Connectomes’ images were used as reference to create the museum’s new logo, which resembles a synapse between two group of letters (MU – S – MED), as well as to choose the color palette for the Brand Identity.
